% free PSA after BioChemical Recurrence (BCR)

Manuel S. Eisenberg

In patient's undergoing screening for prostate cancer with PSA, % free PSA can be used to further understand the risk of cancer. For PSA between 4 and 10, a low % free PSA (<25%) is considered favorable. A new study demonstrates that % free PSA after prostate removal can be helpful to determine risk as well. If the PSA starts to rise after prostate removal, a low % free PSA (<15%) indicates decreased risk of disease spread and other poor outcomes.
